I can't even explain how emotional I became when I saw
this picture of William Farley and his little brother at the
Poetry Out Loud national competition. They were crying, overcome with emotion, because of a poetry recitation contest. Farley, a high school senior from Virginia, won $20,000 toward his college education. He recited poems by Langston Hughes and William Carlos Williams. His high school (and all the high schools attended by the 12 finalists) get $500 to purchase books for their libraries.
Poetry doggone it! Our future is in good hands.
Hooray. Poetry counts. Poetry saves. Poetry...ahhh...poetry...
